Establishing Michigan as a leader in tackling the climate crisis, the MI Healthy Climate Plan lays out a broad vision for fulfilling Governor Whitmer’s commitment to achieving 100% economy-wide carbon neutrality in Michigan by midcentury.
The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, & Energy Office of Climate and Energy (OCE) is partnering with the Michigan Community Service Commission to leverage state and federal investments to launch the MI Healthy Climate Corps an innovative approach to advancing the goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan.
Starting in early 2024, the MI Healthy Climate Corps will field a cohort of 30 AmeriCorps members who will provide critical support to communities tackling climate change. MI Healthy Climate Corps members will receive significant training and career development support to step into Michigan’s climate leadership pool.
In the coming years, the MI Healthy Climate Corps will expand to offer additional community support and service opportunities throughout the state.
Support Michigan to achieve economy-wide carbon neutrality in 2050 by:
Accelerating climate action: Unlock the power of Michigan communities to take equitable and bold climate action.
Supporting communities: Connect community institutions to a statewide climate agenda and key resources.
Building leaders: Develop an enduring, capable network of climate change professionals committed to Michigan’s sustainable future.
Empower and mobilize all of Michigan to meet the goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan
Through Corps members’ service, provide meaningful capacity support for aligned climate projects in governments and nonprofit organizations across the state in service of MI Healthy Climate Plan goals.
Establish Corps members as ambassadors of federal and state resources available to support partner organizations’ climate efforts.
Offer fellowship building, training, and professional experience to develop Corps members’ skills and relationships for the long haul.
How to Get Involved
The MI Healthy Climate Corps is actively engaging with community partners, state agencies, and others to identify needs, and opportunities for this program to catalyze action and setting up a process to request support.
As we move towards launching in March, the program is building training, support, and technical assistance program elements and are interested in knowing who may have resources, content, or other partnership ideas to make this as impactful as possible.
